Race, Equity and Change in Oakland City Government

The workshop will provide an overview of City of Oakland race and equity focus and approach.

Presenter: Darlene Flynn, Director of the City of Oakland Department of Race and Equity – She has over a decade of experience working to build out the race and equity effort in City of Seattle government, the first initiative of its kind in the country; in 2016 Oakland launched their department, the first program for a city in California.

Department Mission: To intentionally integrate, on a citywide basis the principle of “fair and just” in all the City does in order to achieve equitable opportunities for all people and communities.
